ADYAR GOPAL PARIVAR
INAUGURAL FUNCTION 2007

held on Sunday, 23rd September, 2007.  9 a.m. To 5 p.m.
At the Vaamanaashram Samadhi at Chitrapur Matha, Temple Square, Mangalore.

Origin of Adyar Gopal Parivar

THE AUDIENCE

Adyar Gopal Parivar was started by Dr. Mohan G. Shenoy after he stopped taking active part in the management of his Clinical laboratory around 2006. He had spent many years working in the USA and therefore when he turned 67 years of age he began to receive his Social Security benefits in the form of monthly pension of substantial amount. Noticing that he will receive regular amount every month, he decided to stop working as a doctor and pathologist and take up social service.
Dr. Shenoy was deeply interested in the story of his parents, siblings, uncles and aunts and therefore he collected the photos and videos of his family. He had a large collection of photos and videos of his own parents and siblings. In addition from 2006 onwards he took videos and clicked photos at various family functions such as marriage, thread-ceremony, funerals, etc. He took pictures of the photopaper-printed photographs also. Using these photos and videos he created movies of his parents and other relatives.
In 2007 he decided to establish a Group or Society of his blood relatives. He broke the convention by which only the male offsprings were considered in the family tree. He noticed that the comaraderie between various families among his was because of the relationships that existed among the women of the families. He found that the origin of the families of his father and mother were three sisters who married into three different families.
His father late Gopalakrishna was born on 21st September 1906 at the Adyar Village, situated about 8 kilometers from central maidan in the port city of Mangalore on the west coast of Karnataka State, India.
Parents of Gopalakrishna were Manjunath Shanbhogue and Kamala. Kamala's maiden name was Yamuna. Yamuna was the eldest daughter of Mijar Annappa Kamath. Gopalakrishna married Amba the eldest daughter of Mijar Manjunath Kamath. Manjunath Kamath was the younger brother of Yamuna. Therefore the marriage of Gopalakrishna and Amba was a "Maulo-Bhachcho Soirika". Daughter of the uncle married the son of his sister.
In order to prepare a document that gives details of relation between various families Dr. Mohan G. Shenoy decided to form a Society, which he named Adyar Gopal Parivar. For the purpose of making it more authenticated, he arranged a get-together of the people who he knew were related to him. By then he had producted a number of videos of the family one of which was given to Amazon company for sale. It is a DVD named 'Radha Bai' and available here. https://www.amazon.com/Radha-Bai-Mohan-Shenoy-party/dp/B008ZO5W42
Dr. Mohan G. Shenoy thought of starting a website with the domain name adyargopal.com and opened an account with the domain provider Melbourne IT on September 3 2007. He got help from his relatives in arranging an Inaugural function on 23rd September 2007 as a memorial for his father Adyar Gopalakrishna Shenoy.
However, he did not accept any monetary help from anyone. Our society has no bearers, no directors, no managers and no committees of any kind. It is a group of people that are equal in status.
Dr. Mohan Shenoy is the Convener of the Parivar and Registrar of the conferences. No funds are collected from any member and no donations are accepted. All funds are spent from Dr. Shenoy's pocket. That is how he gives back to the society.
Dr. Mohan G. Shenoy also wrote a booklet giving details of the extended family of his parents. The book was in mother tongue of the family, Amchigeli Konkani and in Kannada script. When more names of the family members were collected he had to publish a slightly bigger book with more pages in 2008. In 2010 he published 'Adyar Gopal World' in English. This book is available with the print-on-demand book company Amazon.com at www.amazon.com/dp/B00GXAZGQO
