GURPUR ACHUTH BHAT
Achuth was an intelligent, sharp, learned  GSB soul who faced
multiple challenges during his long sojourn in this world. His father
Gurpur Panduranga Bhat and his mother Sridevi were fastidious in
keeping a respectable face for their family throughout late 19th
Century and first half of the 20th Century.
Gurpur Achuth Bhat
Son of Sridevi Panduranga Bhat
Achuth grew up in Mangalore as the lovable obedient kid-brother of late Gurpur
Varadaray Bhat, the veteran staff of Phillips India Ltd., commonly known as Phillips Bhat.
Owing to severe poverty Achuth  struggled to get education up to SSLC. He worked in the
Malaria Control section of the Health Dept. , of the then Mysore State Government in the
Malnad for some time after his matriculation. His elder sister Radha helped him through
difficult times by giving him food and shelter in her house in Puttur whenever Achuth was
out of job.
Achuth's elder brother Srinivas invited him to Bombay in the 1950s. In Bombay Achuth
acquired skills by going to evening classes while he worked as a clerk in various
companies. Achuth got a job in Lederle India Ltd., in 1958 following which he stabilized in
life. He got married to Varija, a daughter of Javale Panduranga of Mangalore.
After the marriage a sharp and efficient Varija helped Achuth through life. She gave birth
to two children: Sandeep and Lakshmi. Achuth rose to higher designations in the
pharmaceutical company and later started his own business.
Achuth was a friend of comrade Dange in Bombay and was a friend of working masses.
His membership in the Communist Party of India brought him the responsibility of
managing a sick factory producing chemicals and medicinal drugs in Bombay. He shined
himself in this endeavour and became well-known among the Left politicians.
He bought an apartment in Andheri where his children were brought up.
Achuth's son Sandeep studied to become an engineer. Lakshmi graduated to become an
MBA.
Lakshmi got married to Manvindar Oberoi of Bombay. They have now got one son
Rajveer. They have moved to the United States.
Sandeep married Mitha. They have two children, a boy Ninad and a girl Nimitha.
Achuth breathed his last in 2004. Varija has been living in Malad, Mumbai with her son
Sandeep and his family.
Adyar Gopal Parivar pays respects to late Achuth Bhat herewith and feels proud to have
had him as one among them.
